MAP ASSIGNMENTS
There are 8 assignments included in a "MAP", My Action Plan. The links are WORD or EXCEL documents so you can type your detailed answers directly onto the sheets. You may also choose to complete these assignments within some sort of technology presentation. If you choose an alternative format, be sure to include the question or title, and then provide your detailed answer. Alternatively, if you choose to handwrite your responses, please use ink as this is a formal document and pencil will not be accepted.
REMEMBER: The MAP ASSIGNMENTS are only the first half of the Graduation Transitions course. The MAP PRESENTATION is the second half, where students complete a 15 minute presentation & discussion of their accomplishments, plans & goals. These assignments themselves are not the focus of the MAP PRESENTATION. The individual documents are not necessarily even shown during the MAP PRESENTATION! The assignments are created to assist students in the MAP PRESENTATION, to give students appropriate preparation to allow them to discuss their plans freely and comfortably.

7) BUDGET (a 1 year financial plan for the first 12 months after high school)
Whether next year involves going to school, working, or traveling, all students need to create a budget. For this assignment of the MAP, students must complete a balanced budget for the first year after high school. The EXCEL document is pre-programmed to do the math automatically which will be helpful in creating a balanced financial plan! NOTE: You must list your expenses even if you will not be personally paying for them. For example, if you are on a full ride scholarship to University you still need to list the cost of tuition, residence, books, etc. as an expense and then list the amount again under income as a scholarship or a gift from your parents. |

8) PERSONAL INTRODUCTION ~ PREP for MAP PRESENTATION
For this assignment, students are encouraged to list and include evidence of their personal accomplishments, strengths, passions & goals. Students should remember that the first 3 to 5 minutes of the MAP PRESENTATION are for the student to offer a personal introduction to the panel members. This introduction must include the student's top three accomplishments along with an explanation for each accomplishment and why it was/is important. The Personal Introduction needs to demonstrate reflective thought ~ how you developed your strengths, why each accomplishment matters, how you chose your goals, etc. Remember, the focus is on personal accomplishments, strengths and goals, things that are important to you only. Your accomplishments will not necessarily look like anyone else's in content or in style. Maybe it's a copy of an interim, a report card, or a mark printout showing you completed a very tough class you were worried about passing. Maybe it's a copy of a test or assignment where you did very well for you. Think as broadly as you can about what you have achieved ~ and remember it's not a comparison to anyone else. An accomplishment is anything you are proud of, or anything you didn’t think you could do but did. Be prepared to discuss why these accomplishments are important to you. Examples: awards, volunteering, good grades, an essay you are proud of, a project you created, art work, a website, a school team, overcoming difficulty, etc... Students will find they are much more comfortable during the PERSONAL INTRODUCTION of the MAP PRESENTATION if they have evidence of their accomplishments such as photos, certificates, and newspaper clippings which they can show to the panel members. Students MUST bring at least one item of supporting material for their personal introductions. |
